EFCC AND NATIONAL DEFENCE COLLEGE TEAM UP TO REVAMP CURRICULUM FOR TODAY’S SECURITY CHALLENGES

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Nigeria’s National Defence College (NDC) are partnering to overhaul the College’s curriculum, aligning it with the country’s evolving security and governance landscape. EFCC Spokesperson Dele Oyewale disclosed this after the NDC Commandant, Rear Admiral Ahmed, and senior officers visited EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede in Abuja.

Rear Admiral Ahmed highlighted the need for a curriculum update to reflect current realities, emphasizing the importance of integrating expertise on managing public funds drawn from EFCC’s experience with economic and financial crimes. “We want our participants to understand public fund management so they can excel in any office they occupy,” he said, requesting expert input for the next course.

Ahmed praised Olukoyede and the EFCC team for their successes in asset recovery and building trust, encouraging them to continue their outstanding work. He also offered the College’s strategic research center as a resource for the EFCC.

EFCC Chairman Olukoyede welcomed the collaboration, sharing that the commission has a longstanding relationship with the NDC, and emphasized the need for government agencies to join forces for greater impact. He noted EFCC’s work with the Navy on maritime fraud cases and expressed enthusiasm to deepen cooperation with NDC.

Olukoyede stressed the connection between security training and combating financial crimes. He pointed to emerging threats like cryptocurrency fraud, which caused global losses exceeding $2 trillion last year, underscoring the need to incorporate such trends into the curriculum.

“We’re ready to help sanitize your processes and incorporate financial crime and corruption developments into your training,” Olukoyede said. He acknowledged the visionary nature of the NDC’s proposal and encouraged them to keep pushing forward.
