After weeks of careful surveillance, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Frank Chijioke Ibemesi, aka Chisco Bee, a wanted suspected drug baron in Lagos. The 42-year-old hotelier and businessman, who also manages Franc CJ Ibemesi Nig. Ltd, was caught early Saturday at Isolo, Lagos.
NDLEA spokesperson Femi Babafemi revealed that officers traced Ibemesi to his hotel at Ago Palace Way before moving to his warehouse. There, they recovered 42 jumbo bags and four cartons of Loud—a strong cannabis strain—totaling 1,762.8 kilograms. They also found foreign currency including $11,600, 2,000 British pounds, 2,200 euros, and 50 Canadian dollars at his home.
Meanwhile, in Osun State, NDLEA operatives disrupted a syndicate trying to distribute 11,135 kilograms of processed skunk from the Araromi-Okeodo forest reserve. Two trucks were seized and seven suspects arrested.
More drug busts happened across Edo, Ogun, Taraba, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Lagos, and Kwara states. Notable interceptions included trucks and vehicles carrying skunk and cannabis, resulting in multiple arrests, including drivers Umar Yakubu and Ibrahim Bello.
NDLEA also ramped up War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaigns targeting students and staff in schools across Zamfara, Ebonyi, Jigawa, Enugu, Lagos, and Ogun states.
NDLEA Chairman Brigadier-General Mohamed Buba Marwa commended officers for their dedication, urging them to stay committed to Nigeria’s anti-drug fight. The agency promises to step up enforcement and public education to fight drug abuse and trafficking nationwide.
