HAMAS REJECTS ‘INTERNATIONAL GUARDIANSHIP’ OVER GAZA IN UN RESOLUTION

Hamas has strongly criticized a recent US-backed UN Security Council resolution concerning the future of Gaza, calling it an attempt to impose “international guardianship” over the territory. The draft resolution proposes deploying an International Stabilisation Force (ISF), which Hamas and other Palestinian groups say risks external control over Palestinian decision-making.

Hamas warns that handing Gaza’s administration and reconstruction to a supranational international entity strips Palestinians of their right to manage their own affairs. They insist humanitarian efforts must be managed by competent Palestinian institutions under UN supervision, respecting Palestinian sovereignty and local needs.

The group also firmly rejects any clause related to the disarmament of Gaza.

The UN Security Council continues discussing the Middle East situation more than a month after a ceasefire ended over two years of war in Gaza. The US-backed resolution, supported by Egypt, Qatar, UAE, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Turkey, and others, outlines disarmament, international forces for stabilisation, and a transitional government led by Palestinian technocrats.

Western countries advocate using a UN mandate to secure peace and stability in Gaza.
