FG COMMITS TO EMPOWERMENT OF KWARA WOMEN FARMERS FOR FOOD SECURITY

The Federal Government has reiterated its commitment to supporting women farmers in Kwara State to boost food security. Mrs. Faith Agu, Director of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security in Kwara, made this pledge during an advocacy visit from the Smallscale Women Farmers Organisation of Nigeria (SWOFON) and the Budget Committee Group (BCG).

Agu highlighted that women are the backbone of local food production, emphasizing the need to expand empowerment initiatives and government support beyond export-focused agriculture. She also assured that upcoming ministry programmes will embrace inclusivity, extending benefits to Persons With Disabilities.

SUPIA project Coordinator Mr. Abdurrahman Ayuba acknowledged women’s vital role but noted their frequent exclusion from agricultural planning. He called for focused interventions in climate-resilient farming, irrigation for dry seasons, and post-harvest loss mitigation.

Kwara State’s L-PRES representative Mrs. Aminah Jidah pledged targeted support and training for women in livestock production, highlighting dedicated gender-balanced programmes.

SWOFON Kwara Coordinator Mrs. Modupe Suleiman urged tailored support to meet women farmers’ needs to ensure food sufficiency in the state.
