The Federal Government has officially opened the application portal for the Students’ Venture Capital Grant (S-VCG), a bold initiative to turn student ideas into high-impact, commercially viable startups. The announcement came from Mrs. Folasade Boriowo, Director of Press and Public Relations at the Ministry of Education.
Minister of Education Dr. Tunji Alausa described S-VCG as a cornerstone of the Renewed Hope Agenda, meant to nurture Nigeria’s next generation of innovative entrepreneurs. “The President challenged us to find the next Moonshot within our universities and colleges. We’re not just after projects; we’re scouting for future Nigerian Unicorns,” he said, emphasizing that these grants are equity-free seed investments up to N50 million for student founders in STEMM fields.
Successful applicants will also enter an ecosystem packed with incubation programs, expert mentorship, and access to top tools and resources to help scale their startups. To bring world-class technology to the process, the Ministry has partnered with Google. Google’s Gemini AI powers smart evaluation agents on the application portal and offers every applicant a free one-year Google Gemini Pro license alongside premium learning materials.
Alausa urged all eligible Nigerian students at accredited institutions to apply via the official portal at https://svcg.education.gov.ng. He encouraged proposals that show scalability, market fit, and solve real national or global challenges.
This grant is more than funding—it’s a launchpad for the future of Nigerian innovation.
