The Police Command in Abuja has firmly denied reports of any attack or assassination attempt on Lt. Ahmed Yerima, describing the stories circulating in some media outlets as false and misleading. SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, clarified in a statement that Lt. Yerima was only stopped during a routine police stop-and-search operation.
On November 16 at around 6:15 p.m., police officers conducting checks at NNPC Junction on Kubwa Expressway intercepted an ash-colored Toyota Camry with a concealed number plate and tinted windows. The driver refused to identify himself and avoided interaction. Shortly after, three naval colleagues of the occupant arrived, confirmed his identity, and recorded the encounter before leaving.
Once confirmed, the police allowed the vehicle to continue without incident. SP Adeh expressed surprise at the spread of fabricated stories, especially grave allegations like attempted assassination.
FCT Police Commissioner Miller Dantawaye urged everyone to cooperate with law enforcement and avoid spreading fake or unverified news that could cause panic in the community.
