CARNIVAL CALABAR EMBRACES HERITAGE WITH NEW MASCOT AND DIASPORA BAND, SAYS GOV. OTU

Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River, represented by Deputy Governor Dr. Peter Odey, celebrated Carnival Calabar’s place in the state’s cultural identity during the unveiling of the 2025 mascot and the new Diaspora Band at the carnival’s Second Dry Run.

The mascot symbolizes the carnival’s beauty, growth, and resilience, marking two decades of evolution into Africa’s premier cultural festival. Otu called the unveiling a historic milestone affirming the carnival’s enduring legacy for generations.

The Diaspora Band, created to reconnect Africans abroad with their roots, will feature in this year’s carnival parade under the theme “Traces of Time.” It reflects heritage, reconciliation, and shared history, inviting African diasporans worldwide to join and celebrate cultural unity.

Chairman Gabe Onah described the event as a tribute to Cross River’s rich cultural heritage and tourism potential. The carnival, known as Africa’s Biggest Street Party, draws international participants and promotes Nigeria’s vibrant culture.
