TINUBU, SULTAN, UZODIMMA HEADLINE STAR-STUDDED NIGERIAN EDITORS’ CONFERENCE IN ABUJA

Abuja buzzes as top editors, leaders, and thinkers gather to shape conversations on democracy, national cohesion, and the future of journalism.

Abuja is set for two days of high-powered dialogue and reflection as the 2025 Annual Conference of the Nigerian Guild of Editors (NGE) gets underway on November 12–13.
The event, which has become the nation’s foremost meeting point for media professionals, will host over 500 participants from the media, government, diplomatic, and business communities. Sessions will hold at two prime venues — the Presidential Villa Banquet Hall and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) Conference Centre, Jahi.
According to a statement signed by NGE President, Eze Anaba, and General Secretary, Onuoha Ukeh, President Bola Tinubu will declare the conference open at the Villa on November 12.
The opening ceremony will also feature the Sultan of Sokoto, His Eminence, Alhaji Muhammad Saad Abubakar, and Prince Nduka Obaigbena, Chairman of Arise News and ThisDay Newspapers, who will serve as Conference Chairmen.
Taking the keynote spotlight is Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, who will lead discussions on the theme:
“Democratic Governance and National Cohesion: The Role of Editors.”
The conference’s sub-theme — “Electoral Integrity and Trust Deficit: What Nigerians Expect in 2027” — is expected to spark insightful debate, especially as the nation prepares for another electoral cycle.
The Guild described this year’s agenda as “timely and necessary,” given Nigeria’s ongoing social, political, and economic challenges.
Thought Leaders Take the Stage
Day one will feature Prof Awa Kalu (SAN) speaking on “Election Disputes and Judicial Integrity: Navigating the Thin Line Between Law and Politics.”
He will be followed by Prof Sheriff Ghali Ibrahim, Head of Political Science and International Relations at the University of Abuja, who will discuss “State of the Nation: Imperative of Economic and Political Reforms in a Challenged Nation.”
On day two, the conference shifts to the NAF Conference Centre, where former Chief of Defence Staff, Gen Lucky Irabor (rtd), will present a paper on “Media, Terrorism, and National Security: Addressing the Complexities.”
Closing out the academic sessions, Prof Abiodun Adeniyi, Dean of Postgraduate Studies at Baze University, will tackle “The Evolving Face of Journalism: Battling Misinformation, AI Disruption, and Credibility Gap.”
Engaging the Nation’s Decision-Makers
An Executive Session will wrap up the conference, providing a platform for editors to engage directly with government officials, policymakers, and business leaders on key national issues.
The Guild emphasized that the Annual Editors’ Conference (ANEC) remains one of Nigeria’s most respected forums for frank, solution-driven discussions on democracy, governance, and the evolving role of the media in national development.
