THANK A SOLDIER: NIGERIA LAUNCHES DIGITAL PLATFORM TO HONOUR MILITARY HEROES

Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Mohammed Badaru, has introduced “Thank A Soldier,” a digital initiative aimed at connecting Nigerians with serving troops and families of fallen heroes. Announced in Abuja, this interactive platform, accessible via QR code, lets citizens send personalised messages of appreciation and tribute.

Part of the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day (AFCRD), themed “Valour, Sacrifice and Unity: Honouring Our Heroes,” the event honors military sacrifices for Nigeria’s peace and sovereignty. Activities include the National Emblem Appeal Launch by President Bola Tinubu, interfaith services, humanitarian day, a national symposium, and a wreath-laying ceremony.

Badaru highlighted military successes: neutralizing over 13,000 terrorists, rescuing nearly 10,000 hostages, and dismantling more than 1,900 illegal refining sites. Investments in modern defense equipment have strengthened Nigeria’s counterterrorism and counterinsurgency operations.

The Minister encouraged Nigerians to wear the remembrance emblem proudly and support the troops who daily safeguard the nation’s liberty and stability.
