The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has firmly rejected allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria, labeling them false, politically driven, and harmful to national unity. At a press conference in Abuja, NSCIA Secretary-General Professor Is-haq Oloyede condemned Western media and political figures for spreading misleading narratives aimed at destabilizing Nigeria.
Oloyede explained that the violence in Nigeria stems from criminality, poverty, climate change, and governance challenges, rather than religious intolerance, stating, “There is no Christian terrorism, no Muslim terrorism, and no religious intolerance in Nigeria.” He accused foreign lobbyists and separatist sympathizers of fabricating stories to pressure Western governments, especially the U.S., into imposing sanctions.
Sultan of Sokoto and NSCIA President-General, Dr. Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, affirmed diplomatic efforts with President Bola Tinubu to address concerns and highlighted the misrepresentation of facts as unpatriotic. The NSCIA called for unity among Nigerians, urging Muslims and Christians to collaboratively combat terrorism and criminality rather than falling prey to divisive foreign narratives.
