The Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC) has strongly warned school authorities in Akwa Ibom against the illegal production and sale of pirated books. Mrs Cornelia Ibanga, Akwa Ibom Coordinator for NCC, emphasized during a tour of school bookshops in Uyo that some schools are compromising standards by patronizing pirates instead of credible publishers.
She cautioned that the commission will act decisively against any school found distributing pirated materials, urging schools to buy directly from legitimate publishers or reputable bookstores. NCC has held multiple meetings with school management to enforce copyright compliance and safeguard intellectual property rights.
Mr Jethro Fadero, Principal of Bright Star Academy, supported the call, suggesting schools focus on teaching rather than book sales and encourage parents to purchase from store lists instead.
