The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has stopped 332 migrants from entering through the Seme Border for lacking valid travel documents, revealed Comptroller General Mrs. Kemi Nandap during a one-day stakeholders’ sensitization in Abuja. The event focused on evolving migrant smuggling patterns and coordinated national responses.
Nandap highlighted recent achievements including enhanced legal frameworks, expanded officer training, and use of strategic CCTV to rescue 36 victims of trafficking and child labor. She also confirmed stopping 294 Nigerians suspected of irregular migration under “Japa Syndrome.”
Emphasizing migrant smuggling as both a security and moral crisis, Nandap called for united efforts from government agencies, international partners, civil society, and private sector to protect lives and dignity.
The NIS continues cooperation with global bodies like AU, ECOWAS, EU, INTERPOL, and others to strengthen intelligence sharing and joint operations for safer, regulated migration.
