Aliyu Sani was sentenced to 30 months imprisonment by a Jos Area Court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to stealing phones, smartwatches, earbuds, and airtime valued at N1,366,000. Judge Irene Pati handed down the sentence, offering him an option to pay a fine of N20,000 or serve prison time for both conspiracy and theft charges.
The Police Prosecutor, Insp Daniel Ijuptil, reported that the complainant, Mr Umar Abubakar, lodged a case on August 21 after Aliyu and his gang broke into his shop, stealing valuables including four Itel smartwatches, eight earpods, airtime for MTN and Airtel, and four phones. Aliyu confessed during the police investigation.
This conviction is under the Plateau State Penal Code law, emphasizing the seriousness of the crime.
