DSS CHARGES 27-YEAR-OLD MAN FOR ADVOCATING COUP ON SOCIAL MEDIA

The Department of State Services (DSS) has filed a six-count criminal charge against 27-year-old Innocent Onukwume for allegedly calling for a military coup in Nigeria. The charge was filed at the Federal High Court in Abuja, citing offences under the Cybercrimes (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2024 (As Amended) and the Criminal Code Act.

Onukwume, from Umusayo Layout, Oyigbo LGA, Rivers State, allegedly posted on his verified X account (@theagroman) in October 2025 messages urging a coup to dispose of the APC government and suspend the Nigerian government. The DSS stated that these messages were intended to cause public fear, alarm, and disturb peace.

He is the sole defendant and is expected to be arraigned within the week. The DSS views the charge as a serious national security issue and has taken legal steps to prosecute.
