Football legend Cristiano Ronaldo has confirmed that he plans to retire within the next one or two years, putting a timeline on his previous hints about hanging up his boots soon. The 40-year-old Portugal forward, who has scored over 950 goals for club and country since his debut in 2002, is currently with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr until 2027.
Ronaldo, still going strong, is aiming to make the 2026 World Cup his final major tournament, where he will be 41 years old. He shared that while he feels sharp, scores goals, and enjoys playing for the national team, the natural progression of time is making him count down his remaining months in the sport.
Reflecting on his illustrious career spanning 25 years, Ronaldo expressed pride in his records and achievements but emphasized his desire to spend more time with family post-retirement. Talking about his son Cristiano Jr., who plays for Portugal’s U-16 team, Ronaldo hopes he will be better than him but only wants his son to be happy and free, not pressured to follow in his footsteps.
