Simon Stiell, Executive Secretary of UN Climate Change, has called on countries at the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30) in Belem, Brazil, to reach consensus on all critical issues. In a statement, Stiell emphasized the importance of being fully ready for climate cooperation and speeding up the implementation of the Paris Agreement across all sectors.
He highlighted the need to connect climate action to real-life benefits such as stronger economic growth, job creation, reduced pollution, better health, and affordable, secure energy. Stiell noted devastating climate events like Hurricane Melissa, super typhoons in Vietnam and the Philippines, and a tornado in Southern Brazil as urgent reminders.
COP30, held in the Amazon from November 10 to 21, brings together over 190 nations to discuss forest preservation, biodiversity, and climate progress since the Paris Accord. Stiell urged an immediate collective effort to prevent disaster and transform the future through unity and decisive action.
