ANAMBRA ELECTIONS SHOW IMPROVED TURNOUT BUT CHALLENGES REMAIN – CDD

The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has praised Anambra voters for upping turnout to 21.4% in the November 8, 2025, governorship election, doubling the 10.2% recorded in 2021. However, CDD’s Mrs. Seyi Awojulugbe noted turnout remains low, especially among youth, women, and persons with disabilities facing barriers to voting.

CDD commended INEC’s high Permanent Voter Card collection rate of 98.8% and 99.62% of election results uploaded on its IREV portal, attributing these to operational improvements and a peaceful electoral process.

Highlighting persistent governance challenges like weak institutions and insecurity, CDD urged reforms focusing on decentralised planning, real-time result publication, early voting for essential workers, better logistics and training, as well as internal party democracy and campaign financing transparency.

The report also called for sustainable security frameworks and civic education to reduce vote trading and boost genuine political participation.
