The Nigerian Navy has demonstrated its commitment to maritime safety and the fight against crude oil theft by rescuing 11 passengers from a sinking speedboat on the Bonny River and dismantling several illegal refining sites in Rivers and Delta states.
According to Commodore Ayiwuyor Adams-Aliu, Director of Naval Information, the rescue took place on Tuesday when the speedboat traveling from Nembe Waterside Jetty in Port Harcourt to Coal Beach Jetty in Bonny Island suffered engine failure near the Federal Ocean Terminal, Onne. The swift naval response prevented a major tragedy as all 11 passengers, including six males and five females, were safely evacuated and later handed over to the Marine Police.
On Wednesday, the Navy intensified anti-oil theft operations, deactivating illegal refining sites in Obodo Omadino (Delta), Bakana and Isaka (Rivers), Eyamba (Bonny), and Opumani Creek (Delta). These successes reflect the renewed drive under Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Idi Abbas to safeguard national assets and promote lawful maritime activities.
The Nigerian Navy vows to sustain efforts to combat crude oil theft and all maritime illegality for national security and economic stability.
