Governor Ahmed Ododo of Kogi State has presented an ambitious draft budget of ₦820.49 billion for the 2026 fiscal year, marking a 35.7% increase over the revised 2025 budget. The budget, dubbed “Shared Prosperity,” focuses on boosting internal revenue, enhancing debt recovery, fostering a business-friendly environment, deepening public-private partnerships, and ensuring the completion of key projects.
Finance Commissioner Asiwaju Idris highlighted the robust financial strategy emphasizing revenue generation, strategic spending, and capital investment, with strict fiscal discipline to achieve positive outcomes. Information Commissioner Kingsley Fanwo praised the administration’s strides in curbing insecurity, noting directives for local governments to oversee land consent to fight fraud and illegal mining.
The council also discussed critical issues like clean water access, road safety, and land reforms as part of the comprehensive governance plan.
