INEC REPORTS IMPRESSIVE 98.8% PVC COLLECTION IN ANAMBRA AHEAD OF GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that 2,769,137 out of 2,802,790 registered voters in Anambra State 98.8 percent have collected their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) for the Saturday governorship election. INEC Chairman Prof. Joash Amupitan called this a “significant achievement” facilitated by the extension of the collection deadline and nationwide accessibility at 326 Registration Areas.

He urged all registered voters to participate in the election, assuring them of their safety and the commission’s readiness for a credible and transparent process. Amupitan acknowledged past low voter turnout in previous elections and stressed that democracy thrives when citizens actively choose their leaders without fear or favour.

To ensure smooth operations, INEC has deployed 5,718 polling units with supervision by National and Resident Electoral Commissioners. Security measures are in place for six areas facing challenges to guarantee safe voting.

Amupitan warned against any form of election misconduct, stressing accountability measures and promised rewards for effective local election management.

The commission also reminded political parties participating in the Federal Capital Territory Area Council Election to submit polling agents and observers’ names by December 15.
