The Federal Government of Nigeria, through Minister of Information and National Orientation Mohammed Idris, has assured the public of a steady, responsible response to the recent US designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” over alleged religious freedom violations.
Speaking after the Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu, Idris emphasized that Nigeria will not panic but continue working diplomatically with local and international partners to combat terrorism and insecurity. The government remains committed to protecting citizens’ safety and religious freedom, affirming Nigeria’s tolerance for religion as enshrined in its Constitution.
Idris highlighted ongoing diplomatic engagement with the US and regional cooperation to address porous borders and violent extremism, stressing preference for resolution through dialogue. The administration is calm, focused, and resilient in safeguarding national dignity and security amid international concerns.
