The Bishop of Kaduna Diocese, Most Rev. Timothy Yahaya, has called on all religious leaders to take a strong stand against gender-based violence (GBV) and keep the Church relevant in society. Speaking during the inauguration of the Diocese’s GBV Committee, he emphasized that turning a blind eye to abuse harms individuals, families, and the community.
Yahaya stressed the need to educate both Pastors and Imams about GBV, warning that some may unknowingly contribute to violence. He urged all faiths to unite and raise awareness about GBV’s physical, emotional, sexual, and economic forms, and promote peaceful family life.
The committee will work closely with faith-based and secular groups, providing training, counselling, and support to survivors, aiming to protect dignity and restore hope. Religious and human rights leaders echoed the importance of partnership in creating safe, just, and equitable communities.
