Led by Ms. Daniella Omotola of the Rotaract Club of Omole Golden, a group of young advocates took their campaign against air pollution directly to markets and schools in the Federal Capital Territory. The campaign, part of the upcoming “Breathe Clean Air Abuja” project launching November 13, focuses on replacing harmful charcoal and firewood stoves with cleaner gas stoves.
The initiative, a public-private partnership under the FCTA, aims to reach over 5,000 households, especially in underserved communities across the six area councils. Using interactive activities like debates, poem recitations, talent hunts, and social media challenges, the campaign motivates youth involvement with prizes and incentives.
FCT officials, including Minister Nyesom Wike and Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, support the effort to raise awareness about air pollution’s harms and the benefits of adopting Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) for cooking to protect health and the environment.
