NIGERIA’S GREEN TRANSITION ROADMAP SET FOR UNVEILING AT COP 30 TO SHOWCASE CLIMATE LEADERSHIP AND FOREIGN INVESTMENT POTENTIAL

Vice-President Kashim Shettima is set to unveil Nigeria’s pioneering green transition roadmap to world leaders at the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP 30) of the UNFCCC in Belém, Brazil. The roadmap transforms Nigeria’s climate commitments into actionable projects and investment opportunities, highlighted by the country’s distinction as the first West African nation to submit its third National Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0).

Tenioye Majekodunmi, Director-General of Nigeria’s National Council on Climate Change, emphasized that COP 30 is the awaited “implementation COP,” marking a turning point to move climate goals from paper into pipeline projects, partnerships, and pay-for-performance schemes. Recent government approvals of the National Carbon Market Framework and National Climate Change Fund send clear signals to attract high-integrity carbon investments.

COP 30 also presents an opportunity to deepen South-South cooperation on climate with partners like the Amazon, Congo, and Guinea region forests, reinforcing global collaboration on forest and biodiversity preservation.

Nigeria remains fully committed to its goals of reducing emissions by 32% by 2035 and achieving net-zero by 2060, demonstrating leadership in sustainable development, Paris Accord implementation, and climate justice initiatives.
