NIGERIANS IN THE U.S. UNITE AGAINST FOREIGN MILITARY INTERVENTION, URGE SOVEREIGNTY AND PEACE

Nigerians living in the U.S., led by the Organisation for the Advancement of Nigerians (OAN) and 19 other diaspora groups, have emphatically rejected any U.S. military intervention in Nigeria disguised as protection for Christians. In a statement issued in New York, OAN President Temi Aregbesola and coalition partners affirmed Nigeria’s sovereignty and insisted that only the Nigerian government, working collaboratively—not under coercion—should protect its citizens.

While recognizing the grave security challenges affecting Christians, Muslims, and other communities, these organizations warn that foreign military presence is not the solution. They hold successive Nigerian governments accountable for failing to halt escalating violence but call for urgent deployment of state and federal resources to protect vulnerable citizens.

The coalition also advocates for intelligence sharing, training, and logistical cooperation with international partners while maintaining strict national sovereignty with no foreign boots on Nigerian soil.

Moreover, the groups urge transparency and accountability through public audits on security operations and protection strategies for religious and ethnic minorities. They call this designation as a “Country of Particular Concern” a wake-up call to action, not a justification for external interference.

OAN and partners stand united for a peaceful, secure Nigeria where all citizens can live free from fear irrespective of faith.
