NIGER STATE GOVT PROCURES WATER TREATMENT CHEMICALS TO FIGHT SCARCITY, IMPROVES WATER SUPPLY TO MINNA COMMUNITIES

The Niger State Government has procured crucial water treatment chemicals Aluminium Sulphate and High Test Hypochlorite (HTH Chlorine) to enhance water purification and tackle dry season scarcity. Permanent Secretary Alhaj Akilu Musa-Kuta revealed these efforts during an inspection in Minna, highlighting the government’s commitment under Gov. Umaru Bago to revive waterworks and Biwater supply schemes statewide.

Aluminium Sulphate, a water purification aid, and HTH Chlorine, a disinfectant, are being deployed to ensure safe, clean drinking water for communities struggling with perennial shortages. Already, more than 1,200 bags of Aluminium Sulphate and 30 drums of Calcium Hypochlorite have been received.

Many Minna areas including the College of Education, Tunga, Chanchaga, UK Bello-Labour House, Mobil area, and others have begun to benefit from improved water supply. Efforts will extend to additional communities as distribution intensifies.

This move counters issues like pipeline dislocations, vandalism, and erratic power supply which have historically impacted water availability. The government continues to pursue both immediate and long-term solutions to guarantee steady access to potable water for residents.
