The Lagos State Government, through its Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), has trained over 10,000 safeguarding officers across schools and institutions to strengthen child protection and ensure the safety of every child. Speaking at the Lagos State Safeguarding and Child Protection Programme (SCPP) policy review, Executive Secretary Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi emphasized that the program is designed to prevent abuse before it happens and provide quick, compassionate responses when harm occurs.
This initiative supports Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s vision to create a safe and dignified environment for children. The program includes mainstreaming safeguarding policies, strengthening referral pathways, and offering psychosocial and legal support to thousands of children and families.
Emerging challenges like online grooming and technology-related abuse have made continuous policy review necessary. The DSVA’s 24/7 toll-free line (08000 333 333) ensures children in distress can always seek help.
Experts like Public Interest Legal Practitioner Taiwo Akinlami have called for vetting adults working with children to ensure only trusted, vetted individuals are allowed direct access, enhancing child safety.
