INDIGENOUS CONTRACTORS PROTEST AT NATIONAL ASSEMBLY DEMANDING PAYMENT OF OUTSTANDING 2024 CONTRACTS

The All Indigenous Contractors Association of Nigeria (AICAN) has staged peaceful protests at the National Assembly in Abuja calling on the Federal Government to clear overdue payments for fully executed 2024 contracts. President Jackson Nwosu highlighted that the prolonged delay has caused severe financial distress for many contractors, with some facing health issues due to pressure from loan repayments.

Despite promises, including a payment warrant for ₦760 billion, no cash backing followed, deepening contractors’ frustrations. Many members borrowed heavily to complete projects and continue to suffer mounting debts.

AICAN urged transparency and accountability in the payment process and plans to escalate concerns to international bodies like the IMF and the World Bank. The association insists on equal treatment of indigenous contractors, contrasting their plight with timely payments to foreign firms.

Vice President Fredrick Agada emphasized the urgent need for government action, warning of continued protests until payments are made. The group called on traditional and religious leaders to support their cause in raising national awareness about local contractors’ challenges.
