The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Shehu Mohammed, has called on officers in Rivers State to work together to address the ongoing issue of traffic congestion. Speaking during a National Town Hall Meeting and the EMBER Months Road Safety Campaign Flag-Off in Port Harcourt, he praised the dedication of the officers and acknowledged the support from their families.
Mohammed highlighted that despite FRSC’s efforts, road crashes and related trauma remain a significant challenge in Nigeria, affecting both individuals and the economy. He warned against misconduct among officers such as extortion and lateness and emphasized the need for multi-sectoral cooperation to reduce road accidents.
He stressed that Nigeria belongs to all citizens and emphasized collective responsibility in making the country safer. Assistant Corps Marshal Henry Benemesia commended Mohammed’s leadership, noting the promotion of over 1,400 marshals to officers and praising welfare improvements and discipline under his tenure.
The officers pledged ongoing commitment to improving performance and leading the fight against corruption to make FRSC the best agency in Nigeria.
