The Federal Government has declared that all religions and ethnic groups in Nigeria have been victims of terrorism, rejecting allegations of targeted attacks on Christians. Minister of Information Alhaji Mohammed Idris stressed in Abuja that terrorism in Nigeria is a universal threat with no religious or ethnic bias.
Since President Bola Tinubu took office in May 2023, security agencies have neutralized over 13,500 terrorists and arrested more than 17,000 suspects. Over 9,800 abducted victims, including women and children, have been rescued and reintegrated. Idris emphasized that terrorism is a war against all peace-loving Nigerians and the nation’s unity.
The minister also highlighted the diverse religious composition of Nigeria’s armed and intelligence forces working together to combat extremism. He pointed to regional instability in the Sahel, the fallout from Libya’s collapse, and local socio-economic tensions as root causes.
Idris affirmed President Tinubu’s strategic security overhaul aimed at revamping defense and intelligence, with a clear mandate to secure every inch of Nigerian territory and ensure citizens live free from fear.
