Chief Moji Makanjuola, veteran broadcast journalist and Executive Director of the International Society of Media in Public Health (ISMPH), has issued a powerful call for support of women-led journalism projects. During her presentation titled “Changing the Narrative: Women Empowering Women in Media” in Abuja, she highlighted the persistent underrepresentation and stereotyping of women in media despite progress made.
Makanjuola emphasized that women often face narrow portrayals as caregivers, beauties, or victims, while leadership roles remain predominantly male. She challenged the media to recognize the influence it has in shaping society and encouraged women journalists to see themselves as change makers—gatekeepers of truth, narrators of culture, and defenders of democracy.
She urged women journalists to support one another’s work, tell more women’s stories authentically, and mentor the next generation. Makanjuola stressed that diversity in voices makes media richer and more just, calling for attention to women of all backgrounds to dismantle bias and amplify successes loudly and publicly.
Her message: every story told builds bridges for others, fueling gradual but vital transformation—one story at a time.
