SEVEN CLIMBERS KILLED IN NEPAL’S MOUNT YALUNG RI AVALANCHE

At least seven people, including five foreign climbers and two Nepali guides, lost their lives when an avalanche struck the base camp of Yalung Ri in eastern Nepal. The incident occurred on Monday morning amid worsening weather conditions, hampering rescue efforts.

The victims include climbers from France, Canada, Italy, and Nepal. Several others, including some foreign nationals, remain missing, and rescue operations continue with assistance from the Nepalese army, police, and armed forces. Heavy snowfall and cloud cover have stopped helicopter rescue efforts temporarily, but ground teams and aircraft are working to locate and recover the missing.

Mount Yalung Ri, standing at 5,630 meters, is a relatively accessible peak for climbers, but this tragedy underscores the dangers of mountain expeditions, especially during adverse weather conditions. The incident comes amid increased global concern over mountain safety in Nepal, home to eight of the world’s highest peaks.
