The Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) has offered free legal representation to over 5,595 detainees across Nigeria, tackling the country’s challenge of poor justice access. Mrs. Lucy Abagi, PPDC CEO, shared this at the PPDC ‘Law For Humanity Summit 2025’ in Abuja.
PPDC, a non-governmental organization dedicated to transparency and accountability, highlighted its efforts through the Reforming Pre-trial Detention in Nigeria Project (RPDN II). This initiative trained lawyers, clinicians, and police duty solicitors to provide specialized, pro-bono legal aid, resulting in 164 detainees gaining freedom after prolonged captivity.
The summit’s theme focused on maintaining professional standards in pro bono legal services, emphasizing the need for sustainable funding, collaboration among legal stakeholders, and advocating access to justice as a right, not a privilege.
PPDC called for stronger partnerships with government and private sectors to enhance legal system fairness and urged continued support to empower those who freely serve justice.
