The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has confirmed the arrest of two suspects connected to the recent derailment of the Warri-Itakpe Train Service caused by vandalism of clips and fasteners. NRC Managing Director, Dr. Kayode Opeifa, stated the suspects were nabbed near Abraka, Delta State, following coordinated efforts by the NRC Police and local security agents.
Opeifa praised the swift response by security teams and warned that the suspects would face stringent government action for endangering public safety and sabotaging vital infrastructure. He reiterated NRC’s zero-tolerance policy on vandalism, branding it economic sabotage and a serious threat to national security.
The derailed section was fully restored and cleared after a rigorous safety audit, allowing normal operations to resume from November 5. The NRC reassured passengers of enhanced surveillance, deployment of advanced security tech, and strengthened community collaboration across all railway corridors.
The corporation thanked the public for their patience and vowed to maintain high safety and reliability standards moving forward.
