Mrs. Mernan Oluyede has taken over as President of the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association (DEPOWA), pledging to prioritize family welfare, support for widows and orphans, and empowerment initiatives across military and police communities nationwide. She described her new role as a sacred responsibility rooted in service, compassion, and national duty.
Oluyede outlined key focus areas for her tenure including psychosocial support, mental health programs, women’s empowerment, entrepreneurship, digital skills development, childcare, and education facilities. She emphasized building stronger partnerships with government bodies, the private sector, and humanitarian organizations.
Paying tribute to her predecessor, Mrs. Oghogho Musa, Oluyede acknowledged the solid foundation laid for sustained growth and impactful service. She also commended retired General Christopher Musa for his visionary leadership supporting military family welfare.
Having served as National President of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association (NAOWA), Oluyede vowed to elevate DEPOWA to new heights while continuing legacy initiatives. She prayed for God’s protection over officers, police personnel, and their families, expressing hope for lasting peace and prosperity within security communities.
Outgoing President Musa reflected on her two years of dedicated service marked by achievements in women’s empowerment, health, education, and skill development. She highlighted founding DEPOWA College as a legacy empowering officers’ children. Musa also paid heartfelt tribute to widows of fallen heroes and thanked her supportive husband, Gen. Musa.
She expressed confidence that DEPOWA will thrive under capable leadership guided by wisdom, grace, and deep family welfare commitment.
