NCPC BISHOP REFUTES CLAIMS OF CHRISTIAN GENOCIDE IN NIGERIA, CALLS FOR UNITY AND PARTNERSHIP

Stephen Adegbite, Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Christian Pilgrim Commission, has dismissed recent claims that violence in Nigeria constitutes a genocide against Christians. Speaking at a news briefing in Abuja, Adegbite emphasized that Nigeria’s ongoing crisis results from terrorism, banditry, and criminality, not religious conflict.

He acknowledged the suffering endured by both Christians and Muslims across Nigeria, highlighting data showing tens of thousands of deaths on both sides. Adegbite stressed that the crisis is a national security emergency, not a religious war, urging global figures and the media to avoid inflaming divisions.

Adegbite praised interfaith collaboration through the Nigerian Inter-religious Council, emphasizing that terrorism and banditry affect all communities regardless of religion. He cautioned against foreign military intervention, warning it could destabilize West Africa and trigger refugee crises.

The bishop called for partnerships centered on intelligence sharing, counterterrorism training, and humanitarian aid. He urged Nigerian leaders to intensify security operations and strengthen justice for all citizens, invoking hope and unity as Nigeria approaches Christmas.
