Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has urged senior officers from Nigeria’s four paramilitary agencies to champion a culture of innovation, discipline, and knowledge-driven leadership. Speaking at a Performance Management System workshop in Abuja, the minister emphasized that promotions should no longer be based solely on rank or seniority but on efficiency, new ideas, and value addition.
“The day you stop learning is the day you die,” Tunji-Ojo remarked, highlighting the shift from outdated methods to embracing modern technology and fresh thinking in security operations. He urged officers to foster open communication where ideas from all levels are welcomed, underscoring the critical impact of their decisions on Nigerians’ safety and welfare.
The minister announced plans to reward innovative officers and praised the paramilitary workforce’s intellectual quality, urging leaders to build durable systems that outlast individuals.
Nigeria Correctional Service Controller-General, Mr. Sylvester Nwakuche, commended the ministry’s commitment to institutional excellence aligned with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, emphasizing the importance of continuous performance improvement and personal accountability.
The training involved officers from the Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigerian Correctional Service, and Federal Fire Service, reflecting a government-wide push for transformative leadership and effective service delivery.
