LAGOS STATE PUSHES BACK AGAINST GENDER-BASED VIOLENCE, CALLS FOR ZERO TOLERANCE IN WORKPLACES

The Lagos State Government has charged public workers to unite in fighting Gender-Based Violence (GBV) both in workplaces and society. Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), emphasized the urgent need for strong action against all forms of GBV during the Sexual Harassment Prevention programme.

Highlighting the serious impact of cultural norms in perpetuating violence, Vivour-Adeniyi urged the establishment of safe reporting systems for harassment without fear of retaliation. She described GBV as any act causing physical, sexual, psychological harm based on gender and outlined forms such as rape, defilement, harassment, and harmful traditional practices.

Lagos DSVA has launched various interventions, including public sensitization and guidelines for preventing harassment in public and private sectors, aiming to hold offenders accountable and protect survivors.

Permanent Secretary Olubusola Abidakun echoed the call for integrity and zero tolerance, linking prevention to sustained professionalism and productivity. Economist Oluyemi Adeosun urged companies to implement fraternisation policies and monitor workplace relationships strictly to curb sexual harassment.
