DON’T SEE TRUMP’S GENOCIDE CLAIMS AS DIVISION, USE IT TO UNITE FOR PEACE, SAYS CAN CHAIRMAN

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) in the 19 Northern States and Abuja urges Nigerians to turn recent claims by former U.S. President Donald Trump about a “Christian genocide” into a call for unity and collective action. CAN Chairman, Rev. John Joseph Hayab, told NAN that Trump’s statement should not be seen as divisive but as a chance for Christians and Muslims to join forces to end killings and religious intolerance.

Hayab acknowledged the deep suffering of Christians but emphasized that Muslim communities have also endured significant hardships across Nigeria. He described Trump’s words as those of a concerned visitor, not a condemner, urging Nigerians to maintain peace and reject attempts to manipulate the statement for division.

He appealed to all faiths and leaders to prioritize peacebuilding and national reconciliation, reminding that the real desire is for freedom to practice faith without fear or discrimination.
