A businessman named Warushavithana Mirantha was fatally shot near the Urban Council premises in Ambalangoda, Southern Sri Lanka. The shooting occurred around 10:30 a.m., when assailants in a white car opened fire before fleeing the scene. The victim was rushed to the hospital but died shortly after due to critical injuries.
Police have deployed four special teams to hunt down the suspects. Mirantha is reported to be related to a notorious underworld figure known as “Karandeniya Sudda,” and authorities believe the killing is linked to ongoing rivalries between criminal factions.
This incident follows recent shootings targeting underworld associates across Sri Lanka amidst heightened law enforcement crackdowns.
