POLICE DEPLOY HELICOPTERS, DRONES AND TACTICAL TEAMS TO SECURE ANAMBRA GOVERNORSHIP ELECTION

The Police Headquarters in Abuja has boosted security measures ahead of the November 8 governorship election in Anambra State by deploying advance tactical teams equipped with helicopters and drones for aerial surveillance. This development was confirmed by State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement from Awka.

The deployment, approved by Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, forms part of a strategic plan to reinforce local police formations with additional manpower and advanced technical support. The Commissioner of Police in Anambra, CP Ikioye Orutugu, expressed gratitude for the backing and highlighted that aerial surveillance will complement ground patrols by tactical units and intelligence operatives covering all 21 Local Government Areas.

The combined efforts aim to enhance visibility policing, intelligence-driven operations, and ensure rapid response to any emerging security threats. Real-time monitoring through helicopters and drones will focus on key locations, border communities, and potential flashpoints, while ground teams maintain robust patrols and checkpoints.

The police reaffirm their commitment to peace, urging residents to stay calm, vigilant, and support law enforcement by reporting suspicious activities promptly via emergency hotlines.

The security escalation coincides with preparations by INEC, which declared full readiness with thousands of deployed staff and accredited journalists to oversee a credible poll with 16 gubernatorial candidates contesting.
