Mrs. Omolola Oloworaran, Director General of the National Pension Commission (PenCom), has unveiled the Board of Trustees for the Pension Industry Health Care Initiative (PenCare), aimed at providing quality and affordable healthcare to retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). The launch, held in Abuja, marks a new era of social protection focused on not just financial security, but also the health and dignity of Nigeria’s retired workforce.
PenCare will kick off by covering at least 20,000 retirees, aligning with President Bola Tinubu’s directive to improve retirees’ quality of life through accessible healthcare services. Oloworaran describes this initiative as a hopeful and compassionate step, modeled on global best practices but tailored for Nigeria’s unique needs.
The Board of Trustees, chaired by Mr. Mohammad Ahmad, will oversee policies, accreditation of health providers, and ensure transparency and collaboration across pension and healthcare sectors. This innovation promises to ease the healthcare challenges retirees face, especially those with low income, allowing them to save more and enjoy well-deserved care.
“This is about giving back dignity and care to those who built our nation,” said the PenCom DG. The chairman echoed this passion, vowing full dedication to the wellbeing of all retirees.
