The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed the Federal High Court’s decision to stop its upcoming national convention, calling it “an assault on Nigeria’s democratic process.” In a statement, PDP’s spokesperson Debo Ologunagba emphasized that the party remains committed to holding the convention scheduled for November 15-16 in Ibadan, arguing that the court’s ruling does not invalidate their plans.
Ologunagba pointed out that the Supreme Court recently affirmed that political parties have the right to manage their internal affairs without undue judicial interference, except in clear cases of constitutional violations. He urged party members to stay focused and continue preparing for the convention, vowing to appeal the court’s decision immediately.
The court had ordered INEC not to recognize any outcomes from the convention unless PDP adhered to all legal guidelines, including proper notices and lawful procedures. Despite the judgment, PDP insists it will go ahead and legal avenues are currently being explored to challenge the ruling.
