The Oyo State Government has officially handed over 90 hectares of land at Moniya, Ibadan, to the Federal Government for constructing the proposed Moniya Inland Dry Port. The handover ceremony took place on Friday with the state Deputy Governor, Mr. Bayo Lawal, passing the land to the Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy’s Permanent Secretary, Mr. Michael Olufemi.
Deputy Governor Lawal highlighted the project’s promise to boost Oyo’s economy, enhance the agricultural value chain, promote industrialization, and develop crucial infrastructure nationwide. He emphasized that the dry port would significantly reduce congestion at Lagos ports and ease goods clearing processes, improving the national logistics system.
Minister Gboyega Oyetola, represented by Olufemi, called the dry port a strategic national asset expected to stimulate industrial and agricultural growth across the South-West region. He praised Governor Seyi Makinde for his commitment to the federal Renewed Hope Agenda, showcasing strong collaboration between the federal and state governments.
The Nigerian Shippers Council also commended the project’s job creation potential and its role in advancing logistics and rural-urban development.
