The Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF) has unveiled a new claims tracking portal allowing workers to monitor their compensation claims in real time, bringing greater transparency and peace of mind to beneficiaries. Managing Director Oluwaseun Faleye disclosed in a NAN interview that this digital advance is part of sweeping reforms to modernize and streamline NSITF operations.
Faleye revealed that some employers sabotage the system by under-declaring salaries and staff strength to reduce their mandatory contributions, a practice that harms workers by lowering their compensation benefits. The Fund is tackling this through advocacy and education and enforces compliance under the Employees’ Compensation Act (ECA) 2010.
With a commitment to efficiency, NSITF has simplified the claims process from 11 cumbersome steps to approximately three, aided by a customer service hub with multiple engagement channels such as online chats and text messaging.
Beyond compensation, NSITF provides rehabilitative services, medical support like physiotherapy, vocational training, and reintegration assistance for workers injured on the job, in line with ILO conventions. Faleye emphasized the Fund’s investment philosophy prioritizes prudence and low risk to safeguard workers’ contributions.
NSITF is also actively pursuing stronger legal enforcement of the ECA to ensure employer compliance and enhance operational governance, while balanced stakeholder representation remains a topic of ongoing debate.
Faleye’s vision is an agile, accountable, and professional NSITF, fully capable of protecting Nigerian workers and delivering services that truly affect lives positively.
