The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) announced that two of the seven coaches of the Warri–Itakpe Train Service (WITS) derailed on Saturday evening around 7:30 pm at Kilometer 212+8m near Agbor in Delta State. Fortunately, all passengers on board were safely evacuated and accounted for, with no injuries or casualties reported.
Dr. Kayode Opeifa, NRC Managing Director/CEO, stated that preliminary investigations point to suspected track vandalism as the cause. NRC recovery teams, supported by security personnel, have been working at the site since the incident and expect recovery operations to be completed soon.
As a precaution, train services on the affected corridor have been temporarily suspended to allow for a comprehensive safety and security audit of the tracks and infrastructure. NRC apologized for any inconvenience and assured the public that services will resume once the corridor is deemed safe.
The incident comes just days after the Warri–Itakpe train service resumed on October 29, 2025, following a suspension due to technical faults earlier in the year.
