NIGERIAN METEOROLOGICAL AGENCY (NiMet) WARNS OF DUST HAZE AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS NIGERIA

The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has forecast dust haze and isolated thunderstorms in many parts of the country from Monday to Wednesday. Citizens are advised to stay alert and take appropriate safety precautions.

NiMet predicts slight dust haze over Katsina, Kano, Jigawa, Yobe, Borno, and parts of Kaduna States on Monday, with sunny skies expected elsewhere in the north. Isolated thunderstorms may occur in southern Taraba during afternoons and evenings, while the central region will experience sunny skies with cloudy patches.

Thunderstorms are also expected later on Monday in parts of Benue, Kogi, Ogun, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Lagos, and several other states, with moderate rainfall likely in both southwestern and southeastern regions by evening.

Tuesday’s forecast shows sunny and hazy northern skies, thunderstorms in southern Taraba, and isolated showers in parts of Kogi, Benue, and Kwara states. The south will see cloud cover in the morning with thunderstorms developing later in Ogun, Lagos, Cross River, and adjoining states.

On Wednesday, northern and central regions are expected to remain mostly sunny, but thunderstorms are forecast for parts of Kwara, Benue, Kogi, and various southern states including Abia, Anambra, Imo, Osun, Ogun, Edo, Bayelsa, Rivers, and Delta.

NiMet urges motorists to drive carefully in rain and haze conditions and advises asthmatics and those with respiratory issues to avoid exposure to dust and heavy haze by staying indoors. Airline operators are encouraged to obtain updated weather reports for flights.
