The Anambra branch of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has issued a stern call to Gov. Chukwuma Soludo and security agencies to urgently secure the release of Dr. Tochukwu Mbanugo, a neurosurgeon abducted right in front of Nnamdi Azikiwe Teaching Hospital, Nnewi, on October 30.
In an emergency communiqué signed by Dr. Princeston Okam and Dr. Obiaeli Ifeanyi, the NMA warned that if Dr. Mbanugo’s abductors are not quickly apprehended and he is not freed within 72 hours, all doctors in Anambra under NMA will cease work until he is released. The association expressed deep concern over the prolonged silence from the kidnappers and urged the government to take immediate action.
The NMA described this kidnapping as a severe blow to healthcare security in the region, and vowed to support efforts that would lead to his safe return. Efforts to get a response from the police have so far been unsuccessful, but the force has promised vigorous investigation and public support to recover the doctor.
