The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a taxi driver, Adedayo Ben Adegbola, accused of multiple heinous crimes including rape, defilement, assault, indecent assault, and armed robbery against female passengers. Police spokesperson SP Abimbola Adebisi confirmed the arrest on Saturday, following a discreet and thorough investigation by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti.
The suspect’s image had spread widely on social media after several victims came forward. He was apprehended on October 31 at around 9:40 a.m., along with the recovery of a red Toyota Corolla (registration number JJJ 226 HT) allegedly used in the crimes.
Police investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other accomplices. Victims are urged to report to SCID with the assurance of confidentiality.
Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh reiterated the command’s commitment to justice for survivors and public safety. The arrest marks a major breakthrough in combating violent sex crimes in Lagos.
