GERMAN CHAMBER REAFFIRMS SUPPORT FOR NIGERIA’S VOCATIONAL TRAINING AND ENTREPRENEURSHIP

The Chamber of Industry and Commerce (IHK) Giessen-Friedberg, Germany, has renewed its commitment to boosting vocational education, entrepreneurship, and institutional growth in Nigeria. Dr. Matthias Leder, the IHK’s CEO, shared this during a virtual media conference highlighting two decades of strong Nigeria-Germany collaboration.

Since 2005, the partnership has trained over 600 Nigerians, advancing youth skills, dual vocational training, and business competitiveness. Leder credited former Nigerian Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, for elevating the cooperation to new levels.

The IHK actively engages with Nigerian officials in ministries like Labour, Youth Development, Education, and Trade to deepen this collaboration. Recent initiatives include the Vocational Training Partnership Project (BBP), which blended hands-on industry skills with classroom learning, and the renewed Chamber Partnership Project (KVP) focusing on digitalisation and entrepreneurship support.

Looking ahead, the German-Nigerian Hospitality Training Project launching in 2025 will offer Nigerian youths professional training in Germany’s hospitality sector, combining language study and apprenticeships.

Dr. Leder called the Nigeria-Germany partnership a model for sustainable, skills-driven growth that fosters employment, innovation, and shared prosperity.
